Year 6 Residential Trip

The House in Tirabad

Tirabad - Wales

Residential visits are available for all years and play an important role in school life. Not only do they reinforce class work but they also provide a valuable stimulus to social development, broadening life experiences and acquiring new skills.

Children make the most of these trips and bring home new skills and experiences.

Crate Stacking

The Year 6 children started their adventure by carrying out a team building exercise - Crate Stacking, throughout the week they did many exciting things such as canoeing, tree climbing and caving.

Tree Climbing Crate Staking 2008

On the second of June, 36 Year 6s boarded the coach to travel to Tirabad in Wales. It took 5 long hours to get there and when we got there we were put into groups and did some problem solving.

The groups we were put in on the first day were permanent. We all went on different activities such as caving canoeing and vertical challenge, which were all extremely good fun.

In the first group activity of canoeing Mrs Watson and Ian Swanston fell in the river with an almighty splash!

CanoeingCaving in Porth – y Ogof was real fun too. The water was cold and many people fell in and Mrs Taylor (who was dreading it) really enjoyed it too!

Vertical challenge tested a lot of our fears because the tree we had to climb was really, really tall and we all agreed the harnesses gave us all huge wedgies. The midges were terrible and we all got bitten, especially Mrs Bundy.

We were all sad to leave Tirabad despite missing our families but we had great stories to tell and experiences we’ll never forget.

P.S. Many thanks to our amazing parent helpers William Bell and Ian Swanston who generously gave up a week of their holiday to support us.
