  • It's A Wonderful Time of the Year

Published 04/12/17, by Zoe Duggan - Webmaster

Next week sees us all explore our English skills through poetry.  Lots of the children will be exploring the poem ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ by Clement C Moore.  They will learn from a wonderful picture book version illustrated by Robert Ingpen.  This block of learning will see the children orally re-telling the poem before going on to re-tell it as a story with lots of their own imaginative detail.

  • Sporting Success

Published 04/12/17, by Zoe Duggan - Webmaster

In Year 5 we have lots of sports enthusiasts who take part in the different sporting activities in school as well as extra-curricular activities.

The cross-country team saw all of their hard work and determination pay off during a fantastic 1.5km cross-country event at The Milton Keynes Bowl.  The Loughton Junior Boys had incredible success and were rewarded with first place.

The basketball and badminton teams have also seen their efforts pay off this half term with 4th place positions respectively in their events.

During our celebration assemblies we have also had the opportunity to share in the children’s extra-curricular dancing, gymnastics and football (to name but a few) successes.  It is wonderful to see the children get up in front of their peers and share.  We look forward to more sharing in the future.

  • Amazing English this half-term

Published 04/12/17, by Zoe Duggan - Webmaster

So far this half term, during our English lessons, we have been exploring the theme of Asylum Seeking.  As a year group we have shared the wonderful book ’The Silence Seeker’ by Rob Morley.  The story sees a young boy by the name of Joe mishear his mum tell him about the new family of asylum seekers in their building.  Instead he believes them to be a silence seeker.  The son of the family and Joe go on a journey to find a silence before the family unexpectedly leave.  With the children, we have explored the lives of asylum seekers and the journeys they have to take to find refuge.

Within this block of learning the children have created some incredibly thoughtful, and often emotive, writing.  They have thought carefully about both Joe and the boy’s experience and through this they have learnt a lot.

As we move forward with our English curriculum we hope the children have taken something long-lasting from their learning this half-term.
