Family reading challenges
At Loughton, we believe that promoting a love of reading and reading for pleasure is important for your child’s progress and we have therefore launched a bi-monthly family read challenge where we ask all families to read a book together by our chosen author.
You are asked to select a book, read it as a family and then share your experience with us. By the end of the month children will need to submit some kind of evidence to prove that your family have completed the challenge.
The following are some ideas of what your family could create:
- a photograph
- a book review
- a character or setting description
- a story map
- a model of a scene
- a shared piece of writing detailing each family members favourite part of the book
- or any other interesting / creative way that you can think of.
Staff and governors will also be taking part with their families and all classes in school will have an ongoing reading book written by the author of the month.
All children who create a piece of evidence that their families have taken part will contribute to a class display, receive raffle tickets to put into their class pots and a family read certificate.
We look forward to hearing about your books.
Happy Reading!
