The theme for Safer Internet Day 2017 was, "Be the Change: Unite for a better Internet‟, with a particular focus on the positive use of images and videos online.
During our whole school assembly on Monday, Mrs Millican showed the children the results of her social experiment to see the effects in how far an image can travel and how quickly.
We considered the digital footprint that was created and who would view the image, how and where. The children were amazed to see that the image had travelled as far as Cape Town, Qatar, Shanghai and Sydney! To find out where our #lonelymole has travelled, go to http://j.mp/2jP9iNl
While the point of the experiment was to show how positive the internet was, we did have to think carefully about our responsibility to make safe and informed choices, when posting content online. We also agreed that everyday should in fact, be a Safer Internet Day.
To launch Safer Internet Day 2016 we had a picture hunt around school where the children wrote online safety advice for young people.
Over the half-term break there was also a competition, launched by the Digi Leaders in their assembly, inspired around the word eSafety.
