Welcome from the Chair of Governors
The Governing Board at Loughton School comprises staff, parents and other co-opted members of the local community. We are all volunteers.
The main functions of a Governing Board are:
- To set the ethos, vision and aims of the school - we wrote the Loughton School Philosophy and follow it in all decision making
- To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational progress and attainment of children at the school - we provide robust challenge as critical friends of the school
- To set and oversee the school budget.
We meet regularly and hold a strategic role in the school. We support the school by allocating the resources required to improve standards in education. We ensure the school environment is safe and conducive to learning. We are responsible for safeguarding and are committed to keeping children safe in education. The day to day running of the school is delegated to the Headteacher. We visit the school regularly during the day, to get to know the school and to monitor and evaluate decisions made. We are 'eyes on, hands off' and always consider the impact of our decisions on the outcomes of every child at Loughton School.
At our most recent Ofsted inspection, in March 2016, the report said that "... governors know the school very well." and "Governors have made a positive difference to the school.". We are committed to Loughton being an inclusive school. We love our creative curriculum and believe in educating the whole child, preparing them for life after Loughton.
Governors conduct their business in a professional manner. We have adopted the National Governors Association Code of Conduct. Governors ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date by attending regular governor training and development sessions provided by Milton Keynes Council.
