    We had a great time today and the children were so inventive and practical at the market. With their three euros, all of them managed to buy some delicious fillings for their baguettes. Some items included: a watermelon, a hot roast chicken, lettuce, radishes, cucumber, and waffles! Unfortunately, the weather was against us but we sheltered from the strong winds and enjoyed our picnic. This afternoon, we visited the Commonwealth War Graves at Étaples, searching for Mrs Solloway's relative, names and birthdays shared by our pupils and many unusual gravestones. Later on we had some free time a local park. The children were a credit to the school with their respectful behaviour. They've worked hard to complete a treasure hunt this evening as the sun has shone down on us and we are all looking forward to another packed day tomorrow.

    After a very uneventful journey to Dover with a toilet stop at Thurrock services, we arrived with plenty of time to spare and were speedily booked onto an earlier ferry. The children loved the time on the ferry, bonding with their friends and eating some of their food. The crossing was fairly smooth and we were really lucky to see seals on the beach as we approached Calais port. We did a short hop to Cap Gris Nez for a walk through the nature reserve to the lighthouse and a beautiful view across to the white cliffs of the English coast.
