The digestive system - something to get your teeth into...

This half-term, the children of year 4 are learning about their digestion system from their top teeth to the very bottom!

Although, this week, Year 4 have been busy with assessments in maths and struggling on with the unusually hot afternoons - some brilliant learning has taken place in science. Initially, the children were focused on the different food groups which form part of our daily diet. They discovered their roles in keeping us fit and well and understood what a "healthy diet" looks like. Most recently, however, they have been learning about the 1st stop in the digestive process - the mouth.

They learnt about all the different teeth in the human mouth, what they are made from and what their specific job is; then they built their own mouths out of playdough, cardboard and other materials - ensuring that their teeth have the exact characteristics they have been learning about.

We are happy to report no accidental injuries... sorry!
