Light and Shadow

Exploring Light and Shadow in Year 3!

This term, our Year 3 children are embarking on an exciting new learning adventure as we dive into the fascinating world of light and shadow!

Through a series of hands-on science lessons, pupils will be exploring how light behaves, how shadows are formed, and why the position of a light source can change the size and shape of a shadow. These lessons are full of curiosity, discovery, and opportunities for our budding scientists to ask questions, make predictions, and carry out their very own experiments.

One of the highlights of the term will be creating our own shadow puppets! Children will use their new knowledge of opaque, translucent, and transparent materials to design and build puppets that cast clear and interesting shadows. This creative project will allow them to combine science and art in a fun and imaginative way.

As always, we encourage you to talk to your child about what they’re learning in class. Ask them about the experiments they’ve tried or what surprised them most about how shadows behave—you might be amazed at what they can explain!

We’re looking forward to a bright term full of discovery, creativity, and of course… a few shadows!

Stay tuned for updates and photos of our fantastic learning journey.
