A Maya workshop and STEM Week
A week learning about the Mayan civilisation from a jungle explorer and an introduction to programming with Micro:bits.
On Wednesday, the children had a fantastic day learning all about the Maya. The session included interactive activities, stories, incredible images, and even some dressing up in traditional Mayan costumes.
Throughout the week, the children have also been learning to code with Micro:bits – small, programmable computers created by the BBC, specifically designed to help children learn about coding through hands-on projects. After exploring the software by creating dice, a counter and a compass, the children went on to design their own step-counters. These not only tracked their steps as they moved around the classroom but also, at the press of a button, displayed the number of steps along with motivational phrases.
