Multicultural day 2025

Fabulous fashion and fantastic feasts!
What a day, wow! It was certainly busy, definitely hot, it was loud, it was delicious and I had not been in the classroom longer than 10 minutes this morning before I had learnt 5 new things!
Year 4 began the day with a truly remarkable spread of food: from Indian kheer to Portuguese pastel de nata; from Egyptian koshari to South African vekoek; from Nepalese momo dumplings to Bean Chilli, Ghanaian jollofe rice, Slovakian babovka and so so many delicious samosas. I cannot list all the options available as we'd be here all night. However, there were so many dishes and such a generous quantity of each that all the children across the year group were able to taste and try anything they liked the look of and there was very little left after break time!
Our guest speakers were so well-informed, interesting, passionate and fun, that the children were thoroughly engaged and curious and there were some excellent, searching questions asked; although I'm not sure any of our girls will want to move to Slovakia in the spring any time soon!
The fashion show was a triumph with almost 2/3 of the school volunteering to get up on stage and show off their cultural party wear. They walked the runway in pairs of their choice and (at the end of a day of which the purpose was to encourage their curiosity about each other to learn more and understand better the cultures in which each of us are raised) it was heart-warming to see that very few pairs weren't culturally mixed.
This inspiring day would not have been possible, as with most things we attempt for the children, without the support, time and effort from our brilliant parents. We want to thank you for the time and effort spent on producing the amazing food, the fabulous clothing, the entertaining presentations but, most of all, for encouraging your children to take pride in a truly inclusive and edifying day!
