What a year (4)!!

Active and interesting to the very end...
This week Yr4 have been busy working on our miniature gardens, our amazing production and presenting our learning about influential women in history - it has been such an inspiring week!
The week began as the previous week finished, with all classes working in small groups to design and create their own ultimate, miniature garden. They used various materials (some sourced from home - thank you!) to shape and model: treehouses, swimming pools, chill-out zones, bug hotels, veggie patches, bridges, rivers, waterfalls and ponds to name but a few. In HB8 and 5 the children were tasked with the difficult and discursive task of creating 2 gardens per class; to take pride of place in the school's new gardens. The children had to negotiate with, listen to, compromise with and encourage each other to create the amazing gardens shown in the photographs.
On Wednesday afternoon, the year group got to perform their collaborative play "The Jungle Book", which was superb! The acting and singing were outstanding while the children shone as they enjoyed showing the rest of their year group the results of their hard work and rehearsal. The classes took a scene each and performed 8 scenes in total with different performers and singers for each scene. We were all very proud of their work and the reception they received from their peers.
Finally, I know, the children produced some posters and presented their research on the influential women from history on whom they had chosen to focus. We found out about characters such as: Rosa Parks, Emmeline Pankhurst, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, Marie Currie, Noor Iniat, Rosalind Franklin, Katia Krafft, Mary Seacole and many more. The children were so influenced and inspired by these women which was made clear in their engaging presentations.
What a fantastic way to finish off a wonderful and fun-packed year - thank you for all your support in helping and encouraging us to broaden the children's learning!
Wishing you all a restful and refreshing summer break - Yr 4!
