Mission to the Moon: The Apollo 13 Adventure

Exploring the Apollo 13 mission through creative writing

In English this week, the children have been immersing themselves in the world of space exploration by writing astronaut blogs from the perspectives of the Apollo 13 crew - Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise. They retold the dramatic events of the mission, beginning with the excitement of the launch, moving through the tense moment of the oxygen tank explosion just 56 hours into the flight, and ending with the astronauts’ remarkable journey back to Earth after nearly six days in space. Through their writing, the children explored the emotions, challenges and teamwork involved in this real-life story of problem-solving and survival.
