The Christmas Truce

This week Year 5 have been…
Learning about all things Christmas! The week started with a focus on three words: believing, belonging and behaving. We looked closer Loughton School and how these words are represented across the school and in daily school life. Our next focus was on peace, what it means in various religions and how they encourage peace through their behaviours and sacred texts, as well as what peace means to us individually.
Our learning then extended to ‘The Christmas Truce’ where we learnt of the event during WW1, in 1914, when the soldiers called a truce for Christmas Day and exchanged stories, gifts and even played football. We reflected on how this event made us feel and wrote postcards home as if we were those very soldiers.
We hope everyone has a lovely festive season and New Year.
