Whole School Science Day – A Brilliant Day of Discovery!

Our Whole School Science Day was filled with excitement, curiosity, and hands‑on investigation as every classroom turned into its own mini‑laboratory. Each year group offered four different experiments, and pupils rotated around their classrooms throughout the day, giving every child the chance to explore a variety of scientific ideas. The school buzzed with enthusiasm as children tested predictions, worked together, and discovered new scientific concepts in fun and practical ways.

Year 5 had an especially action‑packed day with a focus on chemical reactions and biological investigation. Alongside making erupting volcanoes and launching fizzy‑tablet rockets, the children also extracted DNA from strawberries, learning how scientists separate genetic material using everyday substances. This activity sparked lots of curiosity about how living things are built and how science can make the invisible visible.

Another highlight was creating elephant toothpaste, a dramatic foaming reaction that filled the room with excitement as pupils observed how quickly gases can form and expand. These experiments helped Year 5 understand reactions, states of matter, pressure, and the role of enzymes.

Across the school, pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a huge amount. It was a memorable day that truly ignited scientific curiosity in every year group.
