Year 4's splendid writing

This week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrated some fantastic writing from the children.

Throughout the term, Year 4 have been learning all about India. In our English lessons, the children made an Indian lamp step by step. After completing the practical activity, they worked very hard to write a clear set of instructions to show others how to make the same lamp.

During this unit, the children learnt about the structure of instructional writing. They discovered how important it is to hook the reader in at the beginning and to make each step clear and easy to follow. The children really enjoyed the hands-on activity, and it inspired some wonderful pieces of writing.

For us teachers, choosing just one piece of work from each class is always incredibly difficult. However, we were blown away by the writing produced by the children we have chosen.

A big well done to Eden for a great use of adverbs and “bossy” verbs. Well done to Imogen for writing a very expressive and clear set of instructions, including some fantastic fronted adverbials. Louis impressed us with a fantastic hook that made the reader want to keep reading. Finally, congratulations to Benjamin, who clearly reads lots of instructions and used the key features carefully while choosing his vocabulary thoughtfully.

We look forward to seeing what the children can produce next half term! 🌟
