As our Year 5 Viking topic draws to a close, the children have finished on a high with a fantastic piece of creative writing inspired by the short animation The Saga of Bjorn.

The film tells the story of Bjorn, an ageing Viking warrior who is determined to earn his place in Valhalla by dying a heroic death in battle. However, as the children quickly discovered, things don’t quite go to plan! His repeated (and often humorous) attempts to meet a glorious end proved that becoming a true Viking legend isn’t always as straightforward as it seems.

Using the start of the animation for our sentence stacking, the children have finished the animation independently working  hard to capture Bjorn’s character, build tension and use detailed description to retell his final journey. 

What a wonderful way to end our Viking topic.
