African Drumming Workshop

On Thursday 19th June Year 4 all took part in an African Drumming workshop.
As part of our topic of sound, the hall thrummed all day as each class were taught how to follow rhythms and later performed in front of the rest of the year group.
They learnt a little about the history of the Djembe drum, how it is traditionally made and where. They learnt a little about different hand drums and the differences in how they are played. Our expert teacher showed the children the different ways to create a rhythm and the children had great fun learning and repeating the different patterns. Children were given opportunities to teach each other and to conduct the group. The result was four superb performances where the children were all able to play in perfect unison.
The whole experience was uplifting as the rhythms echoed around the school corridors and the children were all vibrating with excitement as we finished!
