Year 5 Get Cooking!

This week, Year 5 ...
This week, Year 5 rolled up their sleeves, tied on their aprons, and got busy in the kitchen for a special Cooking Day – and what a day it was!
As part of our science topic on the heart and lungs and learning how to keep our hearts healthy, we decided to put our knowledge into action. The children prepared, cooked, and (the best part!) ate a delicious and nutritious meal, all made from scratch.
On the menu was a hearty bowl of pasta with a homemade five-vegetable sauce, bursting with colour, flavour, and nutrients. Each group chopped, stirred and simmered a mix of fresh vegetables like peppers, carrots, courgettes, onions and passata to create a sauce that was not only healthy, but also tasty! 😋
To go alongside it, we made a fresh salad and even rustled up our very own garlic flatbreads – yes, from scratch! From mixing and kneading the dough to rolling it out and cooking it, the children were hands-on every step of the way.
We had lots of great conversations throughout the day about how the food we eat affects our bodies – especially our hearts. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine science, life skills and teamwork (with a little bit of mess and fun thrown in too!).
Safe to say, there were plenty of proud faces by the end of the day!
Well done, Year 5 – MasterChef has nothing on you!
