Year 5’s Life Cycle Discoveries

Releasing butterflies and planting seeds!

This term, Year 5 have been busy exploring the topic of life cycles in science, and it’s been an exciting hands-on experience for everyone so far!

Each class had the chance to observe the life cycle of a butterfly right in the classroom. We watched closely as tiny caterpillars grew bigger, formed chrysalises and finally emerged as butterflies. Over the half term break, Miss Hawkes kindly took care of them — and when we returned, we had the joy of releasing the butterflies on the school field. It was a lovely and memorable moment.

Our learning hasn't stopped there. In our theme lessons, we continue to look at life cycles and this week, we have planted seeds to track how they grow into plants. This will help us understand the changes living things go through as they grow and develop.

Year 5 are really enjoying seeing life cycles in action — both in the animal and plant world!
