A strange hole has apparently been found in the school field.
Year 5 sharpened their pencils, clicked their pens and grabbed their notebooks ready to take on the task of being a news reporter. English lessons became a frenzy of questions, quotes and considerations as the children started their news report journey by writing about a strange hole found in the school field. Eyewitness statements were taken, and the whole affair was captured and spread across their pages in glorious detail.
Next came the most thrilling part: writing a newspaper report independently. This time the children would be recounting a curious plant that had taken hold of a city in Japan. This tied in nicely with our guided reading sessions, where we are reading A Boy in the Tower in which a suburb in London has been invaded by a plant, causing mass devastation to the area. The children could link these ideas together, creating an imaginative and exhilarating piece of writing. Year 5 have definitely been inspired by their guided reading sessions, adding drama and a hint of sci-fi to their reports.
I am sure the year 5 teachers are all eager to read each piece and see what wonders and delights the children have in store. If the questions and observations during lessons are anything to go by, then these stories will be sensational.
