The knee bone's connected to the thigh bone...

Year 3 Science: Discovering skeletons!

In our science lessons, we’ve been exploring:

  • Why skeletons are important – for support, protection, and movement.

  • The names of major bones – like the skull, spine, ribs, femur, and pelvis.

  • Different types of skeletons – including endoskeletons (like humans have), exoskeletons, and animals with no skeletons at all!

The children have been fascinated to discover how all these parts work together, and they’ve asked some interesting questions along the way (including a few about what happens to bones when we grow old!

To help reinforce their learning, the class had the chance to create their very own skeletons then label the main bones of the body.

This activity wasn’t just fun — it helped bring their learning to life. By physically assembling the skeleton, children could visualise where each bone fits and how they connect, making it much easier to remember their names and functions.
