Trekking for books!

Year 3 Library visits 2025
Between this Friday and last, the whole of year 3 went to visit the central library in Milton Keynes city centre. The children walked to and from the library building and according to one teacher's pedometer that was 14, 000 steps!
The children were sensible, careful and listened well en route, showing themselves to be ready, responsible and safe at all times. They were respectful of people we encountered along the way and were generally great ambassadors for Lougthon School - well done year 3!
Once we arrived at the library the children sat and learned a little about what you can do in the library. They learned that, not only can you borrow books from the library, you can borrow musical instruments too! We found out that there are more than 100,000 books in Milton Keynes library and that 40,000 of those are in the children's section. We talked about fiction and non-fiction and were encouraged to look at the vast variety of materials that are available to borrow and learn from.
We were captivated by a reading of "Don't think of tigers" which the children enjoyed raucously - well worth a read if you get the chance! Then they had the chance to: look around the books on offer, sneak into the reading nooks and share a story, use the self-service scanning machine and ask the librarians some searching questions about books they were keen to get hold of.
I think that, although everyone returned back to school tired and very hungry for their lunch, each of them enjoyed the visit and were looking forward to going back soon with their adults. If you would like to join the library and borrow from the amazing array of books, magazines, music, spoken word and musical instruments available then please search for "Milton Keynes Central Library join the library".
