Don't look now - they're scone!

Baking Day in Year 3
On Wednesday, as part of their DT learning and linked to the history curriculum, our children in year 3 enjoyed the chance to become royal bakers! They prepared, weighed and measured the ingredients using and learning maths mass skills. Then it was time to get stuck in: creating breadcrumbs, then dough, cutting shapes and baking. It is easy to overwork scone dough but the children restrained themselves and the scones rose beautifully in the oven.
HB1 and HB4 made the savoury cheese option while HB2 and HB3 made fruit scones. Both turned out delightfully light and fluffy and the children enjoyed this regal afternoon tea favourite with butter and jam with their friends in the classroom.
They had a brilliant time preparing, making and baking these treats and we're very proud of the results! If you would like to try these at home with your new royal baker, there are plenty of recipes available online. My personal favourite is Dame Mary Berry’s (another royal connection) which is simple and delicious every time.
Happy baking!!
