Santander delivers Money Matters

Today, Year 4 had a fantastic visit from Claire and Louise from Santander, who came to teach us all about making sensible choices with our money and how to keep it safe.
The session started with an interesting discussion about the different ways we can get money. The children discovered that money can come from earning it, winning it, receiving it as a gift, or even inheriting it. After that, we explored what we can do with our money- whether to spend it, save it, or lend it.
One of the highlights was comparing how spending money has changed over time. The children were fascinated to learn about cheques and were surprised (and a little disappointed!) to find out that cheques didn’t come in giant cardboard forms worth “£5 million.” This led to some great conversations about how technology has changed the way we pay for things today.
To put their learning into practice, the children worked in pairs on a fun challenge: decorating a bedroom with a fixed budget of £175. This task encouraged them to make compromises and sensible decisions to achieve their desired look without overspending. It was a brilliant way to learn about budgeting and teamwork.
A huge thank you to Claire and Louise for making money matters exciting and practical for Year 4!
