Year 4 Geography

This term in Geography, Year 4 have been learning all about the exciting and diverse country of India.
We began by using atlases to locate India on a world map. We identified the continent of Asia and named the oceans surrounding it. We then compared the weather in India to the United Kingdom and discovered that India is generally much hotter and has different seasons, including the monsoon season, which brings heavy rainfall.
As part of our learning, we explored the topography of India, including its mountains, rivers and plains. We learnt about important physical features such as the Himalayas and discussed how land shapes can affect how people live. We also looked at settlements and learnt why villages, towns and cities develop in certain areas, especially near rivers and flat land. In addition, we studied the human features of India, including famous landmarks such as the Taj Mahal. We learnt why it is an important historical building and what it tells us about India’s past.
Year 4 have shown fantastic engagement throughout their Geography learning and have really enjoyed exploring India in a variety of ways. They were enthusiastic when using atlases, maps and diagrams, and asked thoughtful questions as they compared places and features. The children enjoyed discovering new facts, making links between physical and human geography, and developing their map-reading skills. Their curiosity and excitement for learning has helped them build a deeper understanding of the world around them and a real appreciation for geography.
