Whole School Science Day Sparks Curiosity Across All Year Groups

Our Whole School Science Day was a brilliant celebration of curiosity, creativity and hands‑on learning. Each year group became a hub of scientific exploration, with pupils rotating around four engaging experiments designed to ignite excitement and deepen understanding.

Year 3 embraced investigations that introduced them to everyday science. They experimented with flying paper shapes, testing how different designs move through the air and learning about forces. Their camouflage butterflies challenge helped them explore animal adaptation, while the sinking and floating activity encouraged predictions and careful observations. A highlight was butter making, where shaking cream transformed it into butter, demonstrating physical changes in a fun, tasty way.

Year 4 focused on discovering more about themselves and the properties of the world around them. They examined their own fingerprints, tested how taste and smell work together and explored what air is through simple demonstrations. Their pendulum timers introduced them to the relationship between length and time, sparking conversations about engineering and measurement.

Year 5 enjoyed some of the day’s most dramatic reactions. They launched pop rockets to explore pressure, extracted DNA from strawberries and created foamy eruptions with elephant toothpaste. Their volcanoes activity brought chemical reactions to life in a memorable, messy way.

Year 6 tackled more advanced concepts. They investigated different forces, observed irreversible reactions and created swirling patterns in magic milk to understand surface tension. Their water dispenser challenges showcased how air pressure and gravity control water flow.

The day was filled with excitement, teamwork and plenty of “wow” moments. Each child had the opportunity to question, experiment and discover—making this year’s Science Day a truly inspiring experience for all.
