The children have been testing whether materials are conductors or insulators and investigating which materials are the best conductors, creating the least resistance. We began by making predictions of whether we thought the materials would be conductors or insulators.

The children then made a simple circuit and used different materials to see how bright the lamps were. Once they had tested the materials provided, they were very creative about choosing other materials in the classroom to test and they noticed some surprising materials, such as the nib of a pen, was a conductor.

We discussed our findings as a class and rated the effectiveness of conductors, linking this to our household and items in school.
