Biomes

Year 6 have been busy researching different biomes and where they can be located across the world.  They have found lots of fun facts about each biome.

Did you know…?

  • Despite only covering 5% of the Earth, over half of the world’s plant and animal species are found in the rainforest biome.
  • Antarctica is the largest desert on Earth.
  • Tropical rainforests have vegetation so thick that less than 2% of sunlight reaches the ground.
  • The Arctic tundra is the Earth’s coldest biome.  Here, the sun does not rise for nearly 6 months of the year.
  • One-sixth of the Earth’s population live in desert regions.
