Student Voice
As part of Loughton School’s commitment to creating citizens of the future through democracy, active school improvement and opportunities to create positive change, we are delighted to once again introduce our student voice groups as many and varied ways in which our children may have their voice heard.
Please do use the tabs to see photographs and find out more about what has already been achieved.
School Council (led by Mrs Read)
Mrs Read: readn@loughton.school
This is a formal group of pupils who will represent the views of their peers. It is intended that they will learn about democracy, how to resolve conflict fairly, develop skills of participation and communication and, above all, to make positive changes to the school whilst having fun.
Green Team (led by Mrs Furniss)
Mrs Furniss: furnissa@loughton.school
The Green Team will help to make our school, as the heart of Loughton’s community, a more environmentally friendly place to be. We will try to be as eco-friendly and sustainable as we can. We will meet regularly to discuss our ideas and then we will encourage all to put these ideas into practice.
Junior Road Safety Officers (led by Mrs Nicholls)
Mrs Nicholls: nichollsb@loughton.school
This group of children will help to promote active travel to school and road safety. Building on the success of our bronze travel mode-shift star last academic year, we will be working towards achieving our silver star. This is a scheme supported by MK council which encourages cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable and active travel. We will be promoting lots of initiatives throughout the first term such as World Car Free Day, Bike to School week and Road Safety Week.
Loughton School News (led by Mrs Solloway)
Mrs Solloway: sollowayj@loughton.school
Children wishing to work on the LS News team will need to have a strong interest in all aspects of school life, be great communicators, be inquisitive and have some good computing skills. The newspaper will be written by the children for the children, producing the content each week in our team meetings.
Digi leaders (led by Mrs Daubermann)
Mrs Daubermann: daubermanns@loughton.school
This group of children will be there as computing ambassadors, helping teachers to ensure that their peers have the appropriate IT equipment to facilitate learning. They will also need to report when any of our technology is not working. This sensible and responsible group of children will need to be computer-savvy as they may be called upon to support their friends! This group of children need only meet once per half term. There is no weekly meeting for them.
Play leaders (led by Mrs Taylor)
Mrs Taylor: taylors@loughton.school
The role of a play leader requires the children to give up at least one of their lunch playtimes each week to support other children with structured, active games when on the playground. They will also be required to fulfil leadership roles throughout the year concentrating largely on team activities and sporting events. This group of children need only meet once per half term. There is no weekly meeting for them.
Junior librarians (led by Mrs Laverick)
Mrs Laverick: laverickj@loughton.school
Children in year 6 may apply to be a junior librarian. We help run the lunchtime library slots, issue and return books and help you find what you are looking for. We support reading events in school and promote reading.
We will also be reviewing new books to let you know what we think. This group of children need only meet once per half term. There is no weekly meeting for them.
These are the children who were elected as part of a democratic process to join the Student Voice in the year 2021-2022:
