Welcome from the Chair of Governors

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family, from the Loughton School family. Thank you for choosing Loughton School for your child’s next phase in their education. With our exciting creative curriculum, inspirational staff and outstanding pastoral care, we are committed to educating the whole child.

The Governing Board at Loughton School comprises parents, staff and other co-opted members of the local community. As an academy, we are also called trustees. We are all volunteers.

The main functions of a Governing Board are:

a) To set the ethos, vision and aims of the school

b) To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational progress and attainment of children at the school

c) To set and oversee the school budget

We meet regularly and hold a strategic role in the school. The day to day running of the school is delegated to the Headteacher. We support the school by allocating the resources required to improve standards in education. We ensure the school environment is safe and conducive to learning. We are responsible for safeguarding and are committed to keeping children safe in education. We visit the school regularly during the day, to get to know the school and to monitor and evaluate decisions made. We are 'eyes on, hands off' and always consider the impact of our decisions on the outcomes of every child at Loughton School.

At our most recent Ofsted inspection, in November 2019, the report said, "The vast majority of staff and parents and carers are positive about the school. They have confidence in leaders. The work of trustees is effective. They hold leaders to account and have a strong focus on the well-being of staff and pupils.".

Governors are conduct their business in a professional manner. We have adopted the National Governors Association Code of Conduct. Governors ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date by attending regular governor training and development sessions provided by Milton Keynes Council.
