    • Celebrating Year 4 writing

      Published 15/05/26

This week we have celebrated some astounding pieces of narrative writing based on both The Jungle Book and Taking Flight – a short film about a boy’s imagination.

All of the year group worked hard on their stories, but these children’s work really stood out:  Alexis, HB5; Leora, HB6; Kai, HB7; and Cyrus, HB8.

Alexis was praised for her use of paragraphs, noun phrases, handwriting and use of speech.  Leora wrote an expressive story which teased the reader and built tension.  Kai demonstrated a fantastic choice of vocabulary, and Cyrus’ writing was full of description and intensity.  They should all be very proud of their efforts; we certainly are!

Below I have included a snippet of what each child wrote.  Please enjoy.

Alexis: In a sudden movement, the ground shook and the temple started to collapse! Mowgli ran for his life and King Louie stood up.  He started chasing Mowgli dodging pillars and found the nearest exit.  Mowgli leapt for a tree. He made it just in time. Everyone made it just in time apart for the monkey king.  The temple fell on him.  The monkeys dug for their king but one rock got misplaced and they all died.

Leora: Meanwhile, Baloo and Bagheera were clawing their way up to Monkey City.  Baloo thought of many promising escape plans but Bagheera always managed to find a flaw in them.  Just as they were about to give up hope, Bagheera made a sensible suggestion.  “Will it work?” asked Baloo. “It’ll save Mowgli’s life,” answered Bagheera.

Kai: Nono’s announcement informed Tony and his blue teddy bear that this particular jungle they were adventuring into was infested by a rare type of glow-eyed monkey.  Their glowing eyes met Tony’s; a monkey screeched a command.  The monkeys swung tree to tree gaining ground on the pair.  Tony and Nono made a brave decision to hurl themselves off a cliff into a lake inhabited by hungry crocodiles ready to snap their jaws at any moment.

Cyrus: As soon as Mowgli arrived at the gargantuan monkey city, he sat there and stared at the tall, ruined buildings.  The dirty monkeys were pushing and scratching him.  Mowgli listened to the howling monkeys playing in the darkness of the tunnels.  Finally, they arrived at one of the buildings.  While Mowgli was being forced to stay, Baloo and Bagheera were on their way to save Mowgli.

    • A carriage fit for a King

      Published 05/05/26

There’s been a real buzz of creativity in Year 3 lately. As part of their recent theme work on ‘Kings and Queens’, the year group took on the exciting challenge of designing and building their very own royal carriages—and the results were fantastic. We are so proud of the resilience, creativity, and cooperation shown by Year 3 throughout this project. If you get the chance, do ask your child about their carriage—they’ll be delighted to tell you all about it!

    • Years 3–5 Bring our courtyard to life with summer planting.

      Published 05/05/26

Children from Years 3, 4 and 5 have been busy planting in the courtyard today as part of our summer refresh and we hope that you will agree that they have done a fantastic job! We planted strawberries, herbs, lavender and lots of insect-friendly plants. The children learnt about the different herbs and tried smelling them all. They were particularly keen on the mint, which everyone agreed smelled like toothpaste!

    • Taking Flight by Antonio Pasin

      Published 04/05/26

Taking Flight is a short film inspired by the life and heritage of Antonio Pasin, inventor of the Radio Flyer wagon. It depicts a boy’s adventure that transforms into a larger-than-life journey.

For the last couple of weeks, year 4 have been studying the story of Grandpa Nono and the adventures he takes his grandson, Tony, on – traipsing through a jungle full of monkeys, cascading over a high waterfall down to a fast-flowing river, soaring through the skies, fighting aliens…

The children worked together on creating sentences to retell the story using their most adventurous and exciting vocabulary, descriptive powers and high-level punctuation. Individually, they have been asked to write their own adventures that this unlikely pair of explorers set out on.

Why don’t you watch the film ( Bing Videos ) with your child and then ask them about the adventures that they have described in their stories? Perhaps, you could describe what adventures you could picture them undertaking. Take this opportunity to share both your thoughts, descriptions and let your imaginations run riot.

    • Celebrating our young musicians’ success

      Published 05/03/26

On Tuesday, our peripatetic violin and cello students had the exciting opportunity to perform in front of a large audience in a professional setting, in line with the aims of the National Plan for Music Education.

Our violinists and cellists did an amazing job. They were all brilliant, performing and speaking with confidence on stage. One group was even recognised with an Enthusiasm Award, highlighting their positive attitude and dedication.

This achievement is especially inspiring, as these students balance lessons during the school day with regular practice at home, showing real commitment to progressing to the next level of their musical journey.

We are incredibly proud of their hard work and determination and look forward to seeing their continued growth.

For any parents interested in signing their child up for music lessons, please do not hesitate to get in touch with MK Music Coop by clicking here

Well done to all our talented young musicians!
