Digging Into Rocks – Year 3 Science Fun!

Our Year 3 scientists have been getting their hands dirty (in the best possible way!) as they've been investigating the fascinating world of rocks.

This week, the children have explored a variety of different rocks and discovered that not all rocks are the same. They have become rock detectives, carefully observing, comparing and testing samples to identify their different properties.

The children will soon be learning about how rocks are formed after discovering that there are three main types: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. The children were fascinated to learn that some rocks are created from cooled lava, while others form over millions of years through layers of sediment being compressed together.

We are incredibly proud of the curiosity, enthusiasm and perseverance the children have shown at the start of their unit. Who knew rocks could be so exciting?

Well done, Year 3 geologists!
