A very warm welcome back to all of our Year 6 children and families! We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing summer break. We have already had a fantastic start to the new school year and are looking forward to an exciting and action-packed half-term!

We have begun our year with Relationships Week, where we have enjoyed reading The Final Year – a moving and beautifully written story about a young boy experiencing his final year at primary school. The children have really enjoyed the book and have produced some thoughtful and creative work inspired by the story. It has been wonderful to see them reflecting on friendships, memories and the journey through primary school.

This half-term, our learning will take us back in time as we begin our new World War Two topic. In English, we will be writing biographies about an inspirational World War Two nurse and Winston Churchill, before beginning the wonderful mystery adventure Letters from the Lighthouse. We will explore the experiences of children evacuated during the war and follow the unfolding mystery within the story.

There will be plenty of opportunities to bring our topic to life too, including a World War Two-inspired dance workshop, as well as exciting Design and Technology work where we will be designing and making our own lighthouses. In Science, we will revisit our knowledge of light and electricity, alongside our daily Maths and all of our other fantastic Year 6 learning.

We will also be completing our first Mock SATs. This will give the children a valuable opportunity to experience what the tests in May will be like, helping them to become familiar with the format and expectations while reassuring them that there is nothing to worry about!

It is certainly going to be a busy, exciting and memorable first half-term in Year 6. We can't wait to see the children learn, create, challenge themselves and grow as they begin this very special final year of primary school. Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
