Year 3 Celebrates National Poetry Day!
Today, the children in Year 3 had a fantastic time celebrating National Poetry Day through the exciting world of rap and poetry.
To begin our learning, we discussed what a rap is and explored the importance of a beat. The children discovered that rap stands for 'rhythm and poetry' and learnt that it is a style of music where words are spoken or chanted in time with a steady rhythm.
We then enjoyed reading Better Together, a rap written by Michael Rosen and MC Grammar. Inspired by the text, the children worked collaboratively to think of pairs of things that naturally belong together, such as macaroni and cheese and fish and chips. There were some wonderfully creative ideas shared across the classroom!
Using the style of Better Together as a model, the children went on to write their own rhyming couplets. The classroom was filled with a real buzz of excitement as they experimented with rhythm, rhyme and wordplay. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The children in Year 3 were particularly proud to create their own original verses, demonstrating their creativity and growing understanding of poetry and rap.
