Year 5 were the first to venture out of school and explore the local CMK library. There, they were met by library staff who told some mind-boggling facts about how many books are in the library (188,000), how many people use the libraries across the UK (200,000) and how many books are borrowed each year (852,000). The children were astounded and eager to hear more. 

 After listening, the children were allowed to explore the vast array of books available in the children’s section of the library. It was wonderful seeing the children getting excited by the different books on offer, sharing stories with their friends and discovering new authors.

  Some of the children took part in a bingo game, where they were given a card and had to find books that matched the description. Seeing them closely examine books and ask questions to the other children to see if they could help heightened the fun and excitement. 

  Many of the children had brought their library cards with them and they were eagerly perusing the shelves, trying to find THE book to borrow and read at home. 

  Soon, it was time to return to school after a glorious morning sharing reading, books and stories. The children bid farewell to the library and we walked backfilled with wonder and clasping newfound book treasures.
