    Christingle in year 5

    This week in Year 5...

The Christmas spirit has certainly arrived in year 5 this week with all of our classes enjoying our annual Christingle making tradition.  This is an event that we all look forward to and as well as always being a great deal of fun (jelly tots -yum!), it gives us the chance to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

We were reminded that  Christingle is a special symbol used in Christian celebrations, especially around Christmas, to help explain the meaning of Jesus as the “Light of the World”. Each part of the Christingle has a simple meaning:

    • Orange: Represents the world.
    • Red ribbon: Symbolizes God’s love and the blood of Jesus.
    • Four sticks with sweets or dried fruit: Show the four seasons and the good things God gives us.
    • Candle in the center: Represents Jesus bringing light into the darkness.

We are looking forward to thinking more deeply about these themes in our RE lessons at the end of term.
