We are incredibly proud of the five Eco Champions from Years 5 and 6 who showed tremendous courage and confidence as they spoke in front of a large audience at the MK Cycling Summit 2026.
Held at The Open University, the summit brought together leaders from local government, education, business and the community to share ideas, tackle barriers to cycling and turn ambitions for healthier, happier and more sustainable communities around MK into meaningful action.
Our children, along with others from Cold Harbor and Two Mile Ash schools made their voices heard, sharing a clear and important message that our children deserve safer streets around their schools!
Their ask included the reintroduction of a School Street at Loughton School. By restricting motor traffic on the heavily congested Bradwell Road at the beginning and end of the school day, a School Street could help reduce congestion and air pollution, encourage more families to walk, cycle and scoot and create a calmer, safer environment for everyone arriving at and leaving school.
This is about more than the school run. It is about protecting children's health, supporting active lifestyles and giving our children the opportunity to travel to school safely and confidently. (It will also make our local residents very happy as they will no longer be battling through parked cars to get in or out of their own driveways!)
The summit provided a valuable opportunity for our Eco Champions to take their concerns directly to an audience of people who can help bring about change. They spoke with passion, conviction and maturity, demonstrating that children's voices matter and that young people can play a powerful role in shaping a healthier, greener future.
We are immensely proud of all five pupils for representing Loughton School so brilliantly and for standing up for their school community.
And their hard work has already paid off. Following the summit, we received this wonderful news:
“Your children’s testimonies were clear and powerful and I’m pleased to say that Murray Woodburn from MK City Council has pledged to establish a School Street at Loughton School by July 2027.”
